the filing of nomination papers, the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec,
Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to provide some data regarding the profile of
candidates that is discernible from the nomination papers received.
The average age of candidates is 44 years. Furthermore, with
212 candidates, women represent 31% of all candidates, compared to 27% (i.e.,
173 candidates) during the general elections of April 14, 2003.
In addition, the number of candidates entered in each electoral division
varies from 4 to 9. There are thus 4 candidates in 14 electoral divisions,
5 candidates in 63 electoral divisions, 6 candidates in 34 electoral
divisions, 7 candidates in 8 electoral divisions, 8 candidates in 5 electoral
divisions and 9 candidates in the electoral division of Verdun.

candidates by sex and by age for each political party, is available on the
