Press Conference: Labour, Community and Retired Workers Coalition to Issue Joint Call for Pension Protections



    TORONTO, April 19 /CNW/ - Representatives of labour unions, community
groups and seniors' organizations in Canada will issue a joint call for
stronger pension protections at a press conference to be held in downtown
Toronto on Monday April 20 at 10:00 a.m.

    Speakers will include:

    Ken Lewenza, CAW President
    Morris Jesion, Ontario Society (Coalition) of Senior Citizens'
     Organizations, Executive Director
    Amy Nelson, Ontario Society (Coalition) of Senior Citizens'
     Organizations, Vice Chair and representative of the Caribbean-Canadian
     Seniors' Group
    Thelma Edwards, former worker of bankrupt auto parts maker Progressive
     Moulded Products
    Rob Rainer, Canada Without Poverty Executive Director
    Dan Braniff, Canadians Association of Retired Persons (CARP), Chair
     Georgian Bay Chapter

    Callers are asked to use a land line connection and not to use a speaker
    phone.
    

    The press conference will be held three days before thousands of retired
workers, community groups and labour activists are scheduled to demonstrate in
front of the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen's Park in Toronto.
Demonstrators are demanding stronger pension protections from government and
corporations.
