Premier culinary event - hosted by Carlo Rota - supports the local community



    Second Harvest's Toronto Taste is Sunday, June 14th

    TORONTO, June 4 /CNW/ - What's more appetizing than an evening in the
Village of Yorkville Park indulging in the city's finest taste experiences?
Knowing that every bite helps people in need.
    On Sunday, June 14th, over 30 of Toronto's most inventive chefs will come
together to participate in Toronto Taste, an unforgettable culinary
celebration in support of Second Harvest. Now celebrating its 19th
anniversary, Toronto Taste is not only the premier culinary event of the year
but also one of the largest fundraisers for Second Harvest. This one day event
nets over $250,000 which Second Harvest uses to deliver over 500,000 meals for
those who are hungry right here in our city.
    At the centre of Toronto Taste are the chefs and beverage providers
themselves. Not only do they donate their time on a Sunday evening, but they
also provide the food and drinks for all the guests! Participating chefs and

    Returning as Host for the evening is Carlo Rota, of CBC's Little Mosque
on the Prairie, along with entertainment by blues and jazz great Jackie
Richardson. Ms. Richardson along with the Regent Park School of Music Choir
will be performing a special tribute. Also returning, as presenting sponsor
for the 14th year in a row, is The Daniels Corporation. As a gift to Second
Harvest, Daniels' President, Mitchell Cohen actually composed the song that
Jackie Richardson will be performing for the first time ever at Toronto Taste.
    In addition to great entertainment and sampling culinary sensations
guests will also participate in the popular raffle draw (top prize being an
exciting trip to China), the live auction (a handful of fabulous experience
packages), the fine wine auction (featuring impressive, distinct bottles from
around the world) and the online auction (available to the public and running
from June 8th-30th at www.torontotaste.ca).
    By purchasing a ticket to Toronto Taste each guest will be helping Second
Harvest deliver 250 meals to those in need. Collectively, the community will
come together and raise over $250,000, resulting in 500,000 meals for those in
need, right here in our city.
    Tickets are $225 each (with a tax receipt issued for $125) and available
for purchase online at www.torontotaste.ca or by calling 416.408.2594. Limited
tickets available. The evening festivities begin at 6pm. Join us at Toronto
Taste as we pair cuisine and compassion.

    About Second Harvest: Every day, Second Harvest picks up donated, high
quality fresh food, which would otherwise have gone to waste, and delivers
that food to approximately 250 social service programs across the GTA. Second
Harvest currently provides enough food for over 15,000 meals a day to children
in after-school programs, seniors on fixed incomes, women fleeing domestic
abuse, psychiatric patients, homeless people, and many others who have fallen
on hard times.
