Pre-Budget Media Advisory - Federal Budget Impact on Charitable Sector

OTTAWA, March 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Monica Patten, President and CEO of
Community Foundations of Canada (CFC), the country's largest network of public
foundations, is attending the Federal Budget lock-up on March 19th and is
available to comment on the budget's impact on the charitable/voluntary
sector.
"We're watching for a number of things in this year's budget," says
Patten, "including tax treatment that will contribute to philanthropy in
Canada."
Patten leads Community Foundations of Canada, the national membership
organization for the 155 community foundations located in rural and urban
communities across Canada. Community foundations build permanent funds to
provide lasting support for local priorities. They are recognized sources of
knowledge about local issues and are trusted for their ability to expertly
manage donors' funds.
Together, these foundations hold collective assets of $2.7 billion and
are one of the country's largest grantmakers. Last year community foundations
contributed more than $137 million to hundreds of local charities, from social
services to the arts, health, education and the environment.
Patten is an advisor to Ketchum Canada's Philanthropic Trends and a
member of the Council of the Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and
Development. She serves on the Board of Directors of Equitas, formally known
as the Canadian Human Rights Foundation, and chairs the Financial Management
and Development Committee of the Anglican Church of Canada.
