Poker now available at PlayNow.com

VANCOUVER, Feb. 19 /CNW/ - BCLC announced today the addition of peer-to-peer poker to PlayNow.com.

Players registered on PlayNow.com are now able to play poker against others in British Columbia and Quebec, with eight versions of the popular game available on the site.

"British Columbia poker players have the opportunity to play on a secure and regulated poker network," said Michael Graydon, BCLC President and CEO. "Registered players in B.C. and Quebec can now compete against one another in an entertaining and safe poker environment."

The new poker software on PlayNow.com is provided by GTECH G2, a leading gaming technology and services company that provides the latest innovative technology, creative content and superior service for the best possible player experience.

"The new poker products are a great addition to our existing lineup of games," continued Graydon. "The popularity of online poker has skyrocketed and we're pleased to now offer it to our players."

Last year PlayNow.com generated $34 million in revenue for BCLC, comprising 1% of BCLC's total revenue. With the new games now available on PlayNow.com, this number is expected to increase to 4% of total revenue by 2014.

In addition to poker, registered PlayNow.com players can also choose from a variety of games of chance in five categories; Casino, Bingo, Sports, Lottery and Games.

PlayNow.com has numerous responsible gambling safeguards built-in to the site, including GameSense education on players' screens; easy access to odds and factual game information; age restriction and geo-location and residency verification; a session log displaying the amount of time a player has spent online; and a pre-set deposit limit with a 24-hour restriction on all increase requests. For parents interested in blocking minors' access to gambling websites, BetStopper software is available as a free download to install on home computers.
