Photon Control Enters Worldwide Agreement for First Analytical Instrument

BURNABY, BC, Feb. 27 /CNW/ - Photon Control Inc. ("Photon") (TSX V: PHO)
is pleased to announce that the Company has entered into an agreement with a
leading international marketing, manufacturing and service company for private
label sale of Photon's 'Total Sulfur Analyzer'.
Photon's device will be the only portable analytical instrument on the
market capable of detecting sulfur content in liquid hydrocarbons in 'parts
per million' (ppm). Measurement of sulfur below the ppm level is mandatory now
according to recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations limiting
the total amount of sulfur in gasoline and diesel used for transportation. In
the distribution chain, measurement is required at every step from production
of the fuel, to distribution, as well as at the retail level. Photon believes
that there will be an international market for this device as well,
particularly in Russia, China and India.
"The completion of this instrument represents a very significant
accomplishment for our team, as it is the first analytical product developed
by Photon," comments Ivan Melnyk, Photon's Chief Operating Officer. "We are
very pleased to have access to a worldwide market with this Agreement. Our
partner, headquartered in Houston, has exceptional worldwide distribution
services and leads in analytical instrumentation for petrochemical, food and
beverage and pharmaceutical industries and is part of a multi-billion dollar
conglomerate. They have distributors and representatives in more than 100
countries. Immediate access to the worldwide market was a principal reason for
choosing this partner."
Mr. Melnyk adds, "There is a large market for this device in a variety of
transportation and distribution facilities which neither have specially
trained personnel, nor conditions for using the fragile analytical equipment
available on the market now for sulfur analysis. Where refineries have
well-established laboratories to conduct the necessary analysis of sulfur
content in fuel, these other customers will benefit from our analyzer's fast
response, portability and extreme robustness."
Photon's technology has another unique capability; it is able to measure
sulfur in both liquids and gases. Controlling sulfur compounds in natural gas
is another large market. Photon's sulfur analyzer is particularly suitable for
control of bio-gas production, where users are often individual farm operators
who are in need of a cost-efficient and user-friendly instrument.
Based on the pulse-UV (ultra violet) fluorescence principle, the total
sulfur analyzer provides measurement of total sulfur content without the need
for purified gases which are required in large laboratory-type analyzers.
Photon's analyzer weighs only a fraction of its known counterparts and can be
easily transported from one location to another.
The agreement establishes pricing and minimum annual purchase quantities
of 20 units in the first year and 30 units for the remainder of the term for
sale of both the instrument and the parts consumed through its operation. The
agreement is for an initial term of 5 years but can be extended to a total of
10 years. The total sulfur analyzer will be manufactured in Burnaby by Photon
and sold under Photon's partner's private label.
