TORONTO, April 22 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of
the Peel Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of
Ontario (ETFO), ratified a tentative collective agreement this evening.
The Peel Elementary Teacher Local was the first public elementary teacher
local in Ontario to reach a tentative settlement. The Peel occasional teachers
ratified their agreement on April 8th.
"Peel is all wrapped-up," said ETFO President David Clegg. "We can now
look forward to peace and stability in Peel Region public elementary schools
over the next four years of the two contracts. My 8,100 members in the two
Peel locals have secured better working conditions and that will translate
into better learning conditions for Peel elementary students."
"Our members voted overwhelmingly in favour of this deal," said Tim
Cunningham, President of the ETFO Peel Elementary Teacher Local. "I'm not
surprised, it's a good agreement. I'm pleased that we were the first teacher
local to reach a tentative settlement. I look forward to implementing the new
changes to the contract."
The Peel Elementary Teacher Local represents more than 6,200 public
elementary school teachers and is the second largest ETFO Teacher Local in
Ontario. Their contract expired August 31, 2008.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
