As Ontarians file their taxes, PC website allows them to figure out how
much they're paying for McGuinty's broken promise
TORONTO, April 29 /CNW/ - The Progressive Conservative Party today
launched an online calculator for Ontarians to find out how much Dalton
McGuinty's biggest broken promise is costing them.
"It's tax time and Dalton McGuinty's biggest broken promise is hitting
Ontarians hard in their pocketbook," said Progressive Conservative Party
Leader John Tory. "We all remember the television commercials where Dalton
McGuinty looked into the camera and said 'I won't raise your taxes.' We're
reminded every year at tax time how much him going back on his word is costing
all of us."
The McGuinty tax calculator is available at www.ontariopc.com. Ontarians
pay up to $900 per year in the so-called health tax, which McGuinty introduced
in May 2004. Tory has pledged to eliminate the tax over the first four years
of a PC government because it is a tax Dalton McGuinty promised he wouldn't
bring in, he imposed it in a way that hurt lower income citizens and seniors
the most, and it isn't being invested in health care.
"Dalton McGuinty's government has had extra money over the last two years
and is running surpluses but he refuses to give hard-working taxpayers a
break," said Tory. "Instead he's shovelling money out the door at a record
pace with no accountability and very few results. Dalton McGuinty's weak
