Patient Care Technology Systems Presents Insights on RF-Enabled Patient and Asset Tracking Opportunities in Healthcare

Authority on Automatic Tracking Presents at Canadian Health Technologies
Conference

MISSION VIEJO, CALIF., April 19 /CNW/ - Patient Care Technology Systems
(PCTS), a subsidiary of Consulier Engineering, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSLR),
participated in the Health Technologies Conference and Expo held in Ottawa,
Canada earlier this week. Cory Wagner, director of research and development
for the Mission Viejo, California based software company, spoke on the
opportunities for RF-enabled tracking systems to improve communications,
coordination and workflow for healthcare providers. PCTS, the leading provider
of automatic patient and asset tracking software in North America, markets
systems designed to orchestrate the specific workflows in emergency
departments and surgical services suites in addition to providing asset
tracking throughout a healthcare enterprise. Mr. Wagner leads the design and
development of the company's tracking software and is a frequent speaker on
locating and tracking technologies.

In his lecture, Mr. Wagner addressed the distinction between locating and
tracking, terms that are often used interchangeably in the fast-growing
real-time locating system (RTLS) or indoor positioning system category. He
spoke of the difference between simple "dots-on-a-map" identification of
personnel and equipment locations and the more comprehensive ability to "think
outside the dots" to recognize and track patient care milestones. Tracking
software can interpret movement and interaction events between patients,
caregivers and even medical devices to trigger embedded business process
intelligence that is based on an in-depth knowledge of a particular
department's workflow. Logic within the business process rules can then decide
what the events mean in terms of workflow and what to do next (e.g., change a
status, assign a task, associate entities, notify someone, etc.). Caregivers'
ability to prospectively manage their workflow and orchestrate necessary
resources to streamline patient care is enhanced by the automatically
generated real-time information.

As part of his lecture, Mr. Wagner also presented an overview of
evaluation criteria for comparing the increasing breadth of locating
technologies which represent a foundation for a tracking system. These include
ultra-wideband, active radio frequency identification (RFID), infrared, Wi-Fi,
and ultrasound among others.
