Pat Keindel presented with Standards Council of Canada's prestigious 2008 Jean P. Carrière award

TORONTO, June 4 /CNW/ - CSA Group today announces that Pat Keindel, Vice
President, Business Development, CSA Group and former President, Standards,
Canadian Standards Association has received the prestigious 2008 Jean P.
Carrière Award from the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). The award was
presented on June 3, 2008 at a special recognition ceremony held in
conjunction with the National Standards System (NSS) Conference. St. John's,
Newfoundland. The SCC Awards recognize individual and organizational
contributions to voluntary standardization, accreditation and conformity
assessment and are presented every two years. The Jean P. Carrière Award is
conferred on people who show distinguished service in standardization.
"I am truly honoured to receive the Carrière Award," says Keindel. "The
real reward is in knowing that standards do make a positive difference and
touch people's lives in meaningful way. I want to thank the SCC for this award
and it is my privilege to share the Carrière Award with my fellow colleagues
and CSA's 9,000 members. I do hope that future generations will continue to be
inspired to make our society a better place through the development of
standards."
Keindel joined CSA as a manager in 1984 and went on to become President
of Standards from 2001 to 2007. As president of CSA, Pat Keindel championed
the concept and introduction of "information products" and led ground-breaking
developments such as electronic products, state-of-the-art interactive "smart
standards", and on-line standards development. Keindel has navigated the
organization through uncharted territory, pioneering such standards as fuel
cells; sustainable forest management; cell, tissue and organ transplantation;
and customer service for people with disabilities. Her work with CSA has been
distinguished by double-digit annual revenue growth and expansion of CSA's
diverse technical committees, increased member satisfaction and a heightened
presence for CSA on the international stage.
"Standards are all about life and Pat's life is about standards," says
Robert M. Griffin, President and CEO, CSA Group. "She has dedicated her career
to the betterment of society by championing standards development in Canada
and internationally. Pat has repeatedly distinguished herself through
consistent innovation and inspired leadership and I cannot think of anyone
more deserving of this honour. It is with great satisfaction that I
congratulate and thank Pat for her ongoing commitment, dedication and
friendship."
A native of Toronto, Keindel is also a recipient of the prestigious
Standards Engineering Society (SES) Fellowship Award for special contribution
to the field of standardization.

Award is named in honour of the late Brigadier-General Jean P. Carrière. A
distinguished engineer, it was under Mr. Carrière's presidency of the
