Par-Pak Expands Use of CHEP Pallet Pool

Test shows lower total cost with CHEP versus one-way and exchange pallets

BRAMPTON, ON, June 26 /CNW/ - After conducting a thorough examination of
its material handling processes, Par-Pak, Ltd., a leading producer of rigid
plastic containers, is now transporting all products on pallets from CHEP, the
world leader in pallet and container pooling. The company is shipping its OPS
and PET plastic containers on CHEP pallets from its facility here to
supermarkets, foodservice distributors, bakery outlets, food packers, and
quick serve restaurants across Canada.
Par-Pak previously used one-way disposable pallets and a pallet exchange
network to move its product, but faced administrative and control issues with
both systems. The cost and quality of the one-way disposable pallets were
particularly challenging, so the company undertook an internal study to
determine what shipment platforms were most effective. The results showed that
total cost was in CHEP's favour.
"The use of one-way pallets and exchange systems initially looked to be
more price effective, but when we examined the entire supply chain impact, it
was clear that CHEP delivered the best value. Our associates and customers are
very supportive of the program, which is helping to ensure a successful
rollout," said Glen Armstrong, Vice President of Sales at Par-Pak.
Armstrong said Par-Pak is already seeing several benefits from the CHEP
pallet pool, including better customer satisfaction, improved safety
conditions at facilities, and enhanced management control. He also said that
while the initial expansion of the CHEP program is focused on Canada, the
company is considering expanding the solution to its US and UK plants.
"Par-Pak looked closely at all of the alternative shipping platform
solutions, rightly examining the enterprise impact of each system, and found
that CHEP provides the lowest total cost and the most favourable impact for
both customers and staff. CHEP is committed to ensuring that value is
delivered to Par-Pak and all of our partners everyday, 365 days a year," said
Jason Adlam, Director, Sales and Customer Service, CHEP Canada.
