Mira Books Debut Novelist Nominated for Best Romance Novel of 2007
TORONTO, June 8 /CNW/ -- Critically acclaimed author Pam Jenoff has been
nominated for a Quill Award for excellence in romance fiction for her stunning
March 2007 debut novel, THE KOMMANDANT'S GIRL. Published by MIRA Books, THE
KOMMANDANT'S GIRL chronicles the life of a young Jewish bride during the Nazi
occupation of Krakow, Poland, in WWII. The novel has received numerous glowing
reviews, including a starred review from Publishers Weekly.
Pam Jenoff and the four other nominees in the Best Romance category were
announced June 2, 2007, along with contenders in the other 17 genres for the
2007 Quill Awards, in New York during BookExpo America (BEA), North America's
leading annual book industry event. The winners will be named on September 10,
and the 2007 Quill Awards will be presented on October 22, 2007, during a gala
ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall, in New York City. The event will be
carried by the NBC Universal Television Stations nationwide on Saturday,
October 27, 2007, in a one-hour special, and will be streamed live via a link
from MSNBC.com, http://www.quills.msnbc.com on October 22, 2007.
A Holocaust expert, Pam Jenoff served as the vice-counsel for the U.S.
State Department in Krakow as well as special assistant to the secretary of
the army at the Pentagon. In THE KOMMANDANT'S GIRL, Ms. Jenoff drew on her
extensive knowledge of World War II Poland and actual events to craft a
gripping and transporting debut work of fiction. Combining a thriller's
tightrope of tension with the rich narrative of original historical fiction,
THE KOMMANDANT'S GIRL is sure to win fans for talented newcomer Pam Jenoff.
Ms. Jenoff's fellow MIRA Books novelist, New York Times bestselling
author Debbie Macomber, won the inaugural Quill Award for excellence in
romance fiction in 2005 for her novel 44 Cranberry Point.
