OTTAWA, Sept. 12 /CNW Telbec/ - Over 300 members attended a Special
meeting of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union, Local 1120 on
Tuesday, September 11. Those members unanimously approved an Executive motion
giving their Executive the ability to open discussions with Domtar on a
potential new Collective Agreement which would facilitate the re-opening of
the Prince Albert Pulp Mill.
We are committed to establishing a new long-term sustainable relationship
with Domtar. There exists a great opportunity for not only our remaining 380
members, but for Domtar and those communities affected.
We believe that this new venture will truly show Domtar just how great a
facility they have acquired with one of the most competent, highly skilled
workforces in North America.
It is extremely unfortunate that, although some aspects of the workplace
will not be re-opening, we know there exists many opportunities for our
facility in the future.
At this time there have been no discussions with Domtar and the Local,
but we hope to rectify that quickly and start establishing the positive
relationship that is needed for all parties to be successful.
Although there remains much work to be done, we feel that not only have
we taken the first step, we have already started the journey.
We want to Sincerely Thank all those Organizations, Businesses and
Individuals who in spite, of all the negatives have shown their support,
enthusiasm and optimism for the re-opening of Prince Albert Pulp.
President, C.E.P. Local 1120
