Outstanding Contributions to Mental Health Recognized at Psychiatrist's Annual Conference



    VANCOUVER, Sept. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - Last night Canadian psychiatrists
honoured psychiatrists, psychiatric residents and other exceptional
individuals for their contributions to the mental health of Canadians during
the 2008 Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA) Annual Conference in
Vancouver. The following individuals received awards for their outstanding
work:

    Dr. Paul Mulzer from Thunder Bay, Ontario; CPA Paul Patterson Education
Leadership Award
    Dr. Trevor Hurwitz from Vancouver, BC; CPA C.A. Roberts Award for
Clinical Leadership
    Dr. Michel Maziade from Quebec, Quebec; CPA J.M. Cleghorn Award for
Excellence and Leadership in Clinical Research
    Dr. Richard Boyer from Montreal, Quebec; The Alex Leighton Joint
CPA-Canadian Academy of Psychiatric Epidemiology Award in Psychiatric
Epidemiology
    Dr. Jatinder Takhar from London, Ontario; Association of Chairs of
Psychiatry in Canada Award for Excellence in Education
    Dr. Sherif Karama from Quebec, Quebec; Association of Chairs of
Psychiatry in Canada Annual Research Award
    The Honourable David Hancock from Alberta; President's Commendation
    Mr. Gary Mar, QC from Alberta, President's Commendation
    Dr. Michael Myers from Brooklyn, New York; President's Commendation
    Dr. Janet de Groot and team from Alberta; Joint CPA-Council of
Psychiatric Continuing Education Award for the most outstanding continuing
education activity in psychiatry in Canada, academic setting
    Dr. Laurence Jerome of The Harley Street Group, Joint CPA-Council of
Psychiatric Continuing Education Award for the most outstanding continuing
education activity in psychiatry in Canada, rural/community setting
    Dr. Ken Shulman from Toronto, Ontario; Canadian Academy of Geriatric
Psychiatry Award for Outstanding Contributions to Geriatric Psychiatry
    Dr. Stephen Kisely from Australia; R.O. Jones Award for Best Paper at the
2008 CPA Annual Conference, 1st place
    Ms. Adrienne Einarson from Toronto, ON; R.O. Jones Award for Best Paper
at the 2008 CPA Annual Conference, 2nd place
    Dr. Amresh Srivastava and Dr. Charles Nelson of London, ON; R.O. Jones
Award for Best Paper at the 2008 CPA Annual Conference, 3rd place
    Dr. Valerie Taylor from Burlington, ON; Best Posters at the 2008 CPA
Annual Conference, 1st place
    Dr. Lilian Thorpe from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Best Posters at the 2008
CPA Annual Conference, 2nd place
    Dr. Daniel Boleira Guimaraes from Sherbrooke, QC; Best Posters at the
2008 CPA Annual Conference, 3rd place
    Ms. Martha Leblanc of Toronto, ON; Coordinators of Coordinators of
Undergraduate Psychiatric Education Best Paper Award for Medical Students
    Dr. Nida Sieu from Saint Laurent, QC; Council of Psychiatric Education
Best Paper Award by a Psychiatrist

    Earlier the same evening, the honour of Fellow of the CPA was bestowed
upon seven CPA member psychiatrists in recognition of their exemplary
contributions towards excellence in psychiatry: Dr. John Bradford, Dr. John
Deadman, Dr. Sidney Kennedy, Dr. Harriet MacMillan, Dr. Michael Myers, Dr.
Werner Pankratz and Dr. Emmanuel Persad.
