CALGARY, March 6 /CNW/ - Over April 1 to 8, 2007, the focus of the Gay,
Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (GLBTQ) world will be squarely on
Calgary, Alberta. With just under one-month to go, the 1st North America
OutGames and OutFest will showcase a week of GLBTQ art & culture in drama,
comedy, film, music, spoken word & the visual arts. The OutRights Conference
will address topical human rights issues facing the community in Canada but
also of international concern.
Headlining OutFest will be Lily Tomlin in her first-ever Calgary
Performance on April 7, 2007. Lily Tomlin will bring her comical insights and
wildly witty observations about the human condition to Calgary capping the
week-long OutFest event. Lily will be performing at EPCOR Centre for the
OutFest will also feature BitchSlap! - the story of two of the world's
ultimate diva's (Joan Crawford and Bette Davis) battling it out as the duo
teams up to make cinematic legend - and The Wyrd Sisters with their unique
brand of folk music. The festival will also include a presentation by the
Fairy Tales International Film Festival, as well as daily noon-hour musical
concerts and an evening of dynamic spoken word performance.
The Keynote Address at the OutRights Conference will be Judy Shepard,
advocate against anti-gay violence and mother of Matthew Shepard. Matthew was
brutally attacked and killed in October 1998 - because he was gay. Judy's will
share her family's tragedy and her journey of strength to turn the horror of
Matthew's murder into a life of building bridges of understanding at the
OutRights Conference on April 3, 2007.
The 1st North America OutGames, in partnership with Gay and Lesbian
International Sport Association (GLISA) North America will be held in Calgary
