Shows recognition of the tremendous opportunity for Canada in the
PICKERING, ON, May 5 /CNW/ - The Organization of CANDU Industries (OCI)
applauds the federal government's support for AECL in its bid to supply CANDU
6 reactors to Lithuania. Canada's nuclear industry supply chain stands ready
to manufacture the parts and components to help deliver the project on time
and on budget if the bid succeeds.
"The member companies of OCI have a stake in AECL's success, and Minister
Stockwell Day's support is an extremely positive signal to our industry that
he recognizes the tremendous opportunities for Canada's nuclear industry,"
says OCI President Dr. Neil Alexander. "This support has a powerful impact on
the thousands of workers who make up Canada's nuclear supply chain."
Minister Day is also travelling to Romania this week to continue talks on
the sale of another two CANDU reactors, with the deal expected to be closed
within 12-18 months. AECL and its private sector partners built the Cernavoda
Units 1 and 2 reactors for Romania in 1996 and 1997 and both projects were
completed on time and on budget.
"A fully mobilized and efficient supply chain is critical to the success
of a large project such as a nuclear plant construction," says Dr. Alexander.
"Over the past 30 years of continuous work supporting the construction of
CANDU reactors around the world, OCI's member companies have developed an
impeccable reputation for delivering parts and services consistently on-time
and on-budget, and are poised and ready to help deliver once again for AECL
and its customers."
The Organization of CANDU Industries (OCI) represents more than 130
Canadian companies supplying goods & services for CANDU reactors in domestic &
export markets. OCI companies provide engineering services & manufactured
components for the CANDU industry and although it functions separately from
design authorities & utilities, OCI members participate in design,
manufacture, construction & commissioning of CANDU plants here at home and
