Ontario's Police Leaders Gather in Niagara Falls for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police's 57th Annual Conference and Tradeshow

NIAGARA FALLS, ON, June 16 /CNW/ - Police leaders representing federal,
provincial, municipal, and First Nations police services kicked off the
Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police's (OACP) 57th Annual Conference and
tradeshow today in Niagara Falls. Hosted by Niagara Regional Police Service,
the conference's theme - Engaging The Next Generation - emphasizes the need
for policing in Canada's largest province to look to the future by building on
the past.
"As Ontario's police leaders, OACP members have a tremendous
responsibility to not only manage our police services effectively and
efficiently today, but to also ensure we plan to meet the future needs of the
communities we serve," said OACP President Chief William Blair (Toronto Police
Service). "Our 57th Annual Conference and Tradeshow offers us an opportunity
to gather together to plan how our services will meet the expectations and
challenges of policing our province."
Hundreds of senior police leaders, government officials, and exhibitors
will have access to excellent keynote speakers, learning sessions, an
outstanding tradeshow, and networking opportunities June 16-18 in
Niagara Falls, one of Canada's top tourist destinations.
The Hon. Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional
Services, opened the conference today followed by a keynote address by William
Elliott, Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Other notable
speakers at the conference include Geoff Gruson from the Police Sector Council
and Ontario Attorney General Chris Bentley.
"The OACP is a valuable source of support information and networking for
key police leaders representing all levels of policing across Ontario. It also
serves as a strong and effective voice for the cause of policing, both
provincially and nationally," said Chief Wendy Southall of the Niagara
Regional Police Service. "We are delighted to welcome all of the participants
to what we expect to be a rewarding and informative 2008 OACP Conference, and
hope they will take the time to enjoy many of the outstanding and diverse
experiences that make the Niagara Region truly a remarkable place in which to
live and work."

Members of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police serve their
communities as the senior police leaders in municipal, regional, provincial,
national, and First Nations police services across Ontario
