24,500 Visitors Over Four Day Weekend
TORONTO, Feb. 17 /CNW/ -
The Ontario Science Centre received an unprecedented number of visitors
for the province's second Family Day holiday. Over a four-day period from
Friday Feb. 13 to Monday Feb. 16, some 24,500 people visited the Science
Centre, representing a 35% increase over the previous year. Peak attendance
was in excess of 9,000. Last year's attendance over the same period was
18,000, compared to 11,000 in 2007, before the holiday was established. The
recently opened exhibition "Sultans of Science: 1000 Years of Knowledge
Rediscovered" provided a new draw for families. The accompanying IMAX(R) film
"Journey to Mecca: In the footsteps of Ibn Battuta" was in such high demand
that extra screenings were added Sunday and Monday afternoon.
"This increase in attendance is a testament to the wide range of
offerings designed to appeal to visitors of all ages and interests --
throughout the Ontario Science Centre's 40th anniversary year," said Bern
Gorecki, Director of Marketing and Visitor Services. "On Family Day or any day
of the year, the Science Centre is a perfect place for families to spend a
fun, educational and exciting day together."
