Ontario Principals' Council launches 5 new leadership books

TORONTO, Feb. 19 /CNW/ - The Ontario Principals Council (OPC), in
partnership with Corwin Press of Thousand Oaks, California, is launching the
latest series of resource books dedicated to helping principals and
vice-principals become better instructional leaders. The books are the latest
in the ongoing efforts of the OPC to identify, develop and deliver high
quality professional development resources to meet the learning needs of
school leaders.

The Leading Student Achievement Series consists of five books focusing on
increasing the skills of school leaders and includes
    - The Principal As Early Literacy Learner
    - The Principal As Mathematics Leader
    - The Principal As Data-Driven Leader
    - The Principal As Professional Learning Community Leader and
    - The Principal As Instructional Leader in Literacy.

"The provision of practical strategies that principals can use
immediately in their schools makes this series a valuable resource to all who
are committed to improving student achievement," said Laura Hodgins, President
of the Ontario Principals' Council. "The role of the principal has shifted
from a management perspective to that of an instructional leader over the past
ten to fifteen years. Principals need current, research-based strategies and
information that will help them lead their schools."
Using both theory and application, the series guides principals and
vice-principals through insightful decision making and the application of
practical strategies. The books are designed as hands-on guides to support
principals in their roles as instructional leaders. From novice principals
assuming the principalship, to experienced principals committed to continuous
learning, readers will benefit from the blend of theory and practice presented
in the handbooks.
Each resource guide provides step-by-step processes to help readers reach
their full potential for growth, learn valuable skills to resolve continuing
concerns and develop into active participants whose focus is to lead student
achievement.

The Ontario Principals' Council is the voluntary professional association
for principals and vice-principals in Ontario's public elementary and
secondary schools. Established in 1998, the OPC advocates on behalf of public
education and provides professional supports to its Members. It is also the
largest provider of the qualification programs for principals and senior
school board officials in Ontario. In 2011, the OPC will host the
International Confederations of Principals (ICP) conference in Toronto.
