Ontario Liberal Plan Building World's Best-Educated Workforce

Forward. Together.  A Positive Plan To Build A Stronger Ontario For All Ontarians

ETOBICOKE, ON, Sept. 9, 2011 /CNW/ - Today, Premier Dalton McGuinty shared the Ontario Liberal Plan to build a stronger Ontario with the International Muslims Organization of Toronto in Etobicoke.

"Whether your family has been here for days, decades or generations, all Ontario families want the same thing," McGuinty said, "We all want the best opportunities for our children and grandchildren.  That's why education has always been one of our top priorities and that's why Ontario schools have been independently rated as the best in the English-speaking world."

In 2002, 56 per cent of adults in Ontario held a diploma or a degree from a postsecondary institution.  By 2010 that rate had climbed to 64 per cent, the highest level in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.  Ontario Liberals have set a new target of 70 per cent which would give our students an even bigger advantage as they compete for jobs with others from around the world.

The next step in the Ontario Liberal Plan continues the work of building the world's best-educated workforce — from full-day kindergarten to postsecondary education — so Ontario families can get the best jobs in the new economy.

Ontario Liberals are going to help families with a new tuition grant for full-time undergraduate students from lower- and middle-income families based on 30 per cent of the average tuition cost in Ontario, saving families $1,600 per student in university and $730 per student in college, annually.

The Hudak PCs have a $14 billion hole in their platform — that means deep cuts that will put our economy, education and health care at risk.  The Horwath NDP would introduce a crushing $9 billion in job-killing taxes.  Both would take Ontario off track at the worst time.

"Dalton McGuinty is the strong, steady hand in uncertain times that Ontarians need," said Dr. Shafiq Qaadri, the Ontario Liberal candidate for Etobicoke-North.  "He has the kind of experience we need right now.  Only Ontario Liberals have a plan to build a clean-energy economy to move Ontario forward, together."
