TORONTO, April 5 /CNW/ - Mark Romoff, President and CEO, Ontario Centres
of Excellence (OCE) Inc., announced today that OCE and the Innovation Synergy
Centre in Markham (ISCM) will collaborate to strengthen technology start-ups
in the region. OCE will invest $120,000 in ISCM this year, with an additional
$120,000 investment the following year.
"OCE and ISCM work in powerful complement to one another to build
sustainable economic prosperity by helping position companies for success,"
says Mark Romoff. "We have a great partner in ISCM, and this investment will
allow us to bring expanded opportunity and added value to more companies in
OCE's investment will bring the strengths of both organizations to the
benefit of new companies and SMEs positioning for growth. ISCM is a business
advisory hub, linking young companies to experienced business mentors, and
offering workshops and training courses to sharpen management skills.
Together, OCE and ISCM will identify collaborative research and development
projects for market-driven technologies. They will also work together to
assess high-potential seed-financing opportunities. The result will be
technologies and management teams better prepared to compete in the
OCE and ISCM have worked together on a number of projects, and several
important OCE partners such as the Health Technology Exchange (HTX) and the
National Research Council's Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) are
represented at the Centre. This investment by OCE expands that relationship,
creating opportunity for more collaboration on high-potential, thoroughly
qualified projects in the high-tech capital of Canada.
