Ontario Backs New Ottawa U Health Centre



    McGuinty Government Supporting Tomorrow's Health Care Leaders, Innovative
    Research

    OTTAWA, March 3 /CNW/ - Ontario is investing $15 million to train more
health professionals and bring research, teaching and training under one roof
at the University of Ottawa.
    Larger classrooms and labs will be built at the Alta Vista campus for
students in medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and speech pathology. Health and
nursing students will also get a new training clinic.
    The campus is expanding to meet the growing need for health care
professionals. The project is part of the government's five-point plan to
strengthen the economy, including major investments in infrastructure.

families," said Premier Dalton McGuinty.
    "Supporting modern research in Ottawa is a major step toward more jobs in
the near future and the very best higher education for years to come," said
John Milloy, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.

    -  The Alta Vista campus expansion will add more than 60,000 square feet
       of student learning space to the University of Ottawa.
    -  Enrolment in the university's Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of
       Health Sciences has more than doubled since 2000, with over 6,500
       students today.
