On this date in history....

    TORONTO, Oct. 3 /CNW/ -

October 3, 1919: The Dominion grocery store chain is incorporated.

October 3, 1990: Less than a year after the Berlin Wall is taken down
East and West Germany are reunited effectively ending the Cold War.

October 3, 2003: With the 2003 election campaign drawing to a close on
October 2, Dalton McGuinty shifted gears from promise-making to
promise-breaking.

For the duration of this campaign we'll continue with our "On this date
in history..." feature but we'll also feature some of the "do-overs" Dalton
McGuinty wants, some of his many promises made, promises broken, and promises
made again.
    Here's one on gridlock:
In 2003, Dalton McGuinty promised to tackle gridlock.
But after four years of a Dalton McGuinty government commuting times are
on the rise. The average commute time in the Toronto area is 79 minutes by
car. Take transit and it's just under two hours.
Now it's 2007 and Dalton McGuinty is promising to reduce commute times by
half an hour.
Yet the word transportation doesn't appear once in his platform costing
summary.
If you couldn't believe him in 2003, why would you believe him now?
    Leadership Matters.
