    TORONTO, Sept. 13 /CNW/ -

    September 13, 1971: Ontario's Progressive Conservative government
introduces free hospital and medicare for low-income earners and those
    over 65.

September 13, 1981: The first Terry Fox Run is held attracting 300,000
    participants and raising $3.5 million.

September 13, 2006: Dalton McGuinty and the Ontario Liberals make another
promise to the people of Ontario:

"We're on the side of Ontario's northern communities, who want and
deserve the best possible access to healthcare services...."
(Ministry of Health and Long Term Care press release)

According to Dalton McGuinty's own numbers (available at
www.ontariowaittimes.com) wait times for key procedures are on the rise in
Northern Ontario:

    - Cataract surgery waits at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre
are up 54% to 574 days and at Timmins and District Hospital they are
        up 71% to 321 days.

    - CT scan waits at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre are up
        113% to 117 days.

    - MRI waits at Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital are up 54%
        to 128 days.

    - Hip replacement surgery waits at Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional
Hospital are up 14% to 541 days as well as at Sault Area Hospital
where they are up 29% to 240 days.

Dalton McGuinty's promise that northern communities would get the best
possible access to healthcare services...it's one more promise that he was
quick to make, but failed to keep.
