    TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW/ -

September 8, 1949: Start of construction for 7.5 km Yonge Street subway
line in Toronto.

September 8, 1966: Star Trek premieres.

September 8, 2003: Dalton McGuinty makes another promise to the people of
Ontario...

"Our plan will make a real, positive difference by creating jobs and
improving quality of life in the North" (Ontario Liberal Party press
        release).

But thousands of well-paying jobs have been lost in Northern Ontario
under Dalton McGuinty.
And when Northerners said they couldn't afford the increasing hydro
rates, Dalton McGuinty's Minister of Energy, Dwight Duncan, advised them to
"turn down the thermostat a degree, use blankets, good red wine, cuddle up
with someone you care about. It will help you get through those cold nights."
If that wasn't bad enough, Dalton McGuinty doubled the tax rate on the
DeBeers diamond mine - after they'd started construction. Representatives from
DeBeers said it is the kind of behaviour they'd expect in a third world
country.
Dalton McGuinty making a real, positive difference by creating jobs and
improving quality of life in the North...it's one more promise that he was
quick to make, but failed to keep.
