Omega-3 seal oil clinical trial results holds promise for cardiovascular disease risk management

TORONTO, Oct. 12 /CNW/ - The Great North Star Group (GNS), manufacturer
of the OmegaGold and Omega Star brands of Omega-3 supplements, has just
released what is believed to be the world's first human clinical trial to
illustrate seal oil's potential in reducing the risk of heart disease and
reducing death from fatal heart attack.
Completed under the supervision of the University of Guelph's Human
Nutraceutical Research Unit, this study analyzed 25 healthy women and men,
between the ages of 18 and 70, for 28 days who each ingested 1000mg of seal
oil-derived Omega-3 fatty acids daily during the study period.

       -------------------------------------------------------------------
"There were highly significant differences, from day 0 to day 28,
in DHA and total Omega-3 levels, as well as the ratio of Omega-3
to Omega-6 fatty acids and the AA to EPA ratio." HUMAN
        NUTRACEUTICAL RESEARCH UNIT FINAL REPORT
       -------------------------------------------------------------------

The Omega-3 fatty acids in seal oil supplements appear to be readily
available based on the considerable and highly significant rise in the blood
serum levels of EPA/DHA following consumption.
Based on the paper by Simon et al. (Am. J. Epid., 142: 469-476 (1995) and
Lemaitre et al. (Am. J. Clin. Nutr., Am. J. Clin. Nutr., 77:319-325 (2003),
OmegaGold and Omega Star seal oil has the potential to reduce the risk of
coronary heart disease by 30 %, and the risk of death from heart attack by
70 %.
Seal oil is a safe, healthy alternative to other Omega-3 products, and
GNS seal oil is processed and refined under the strict supervision of the
Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada regulations, and carries
their Natural Health Product Number (NPN) certification.
Seal oil is an excellent source of the most essential fatty acids: EPA,
DHA, and DPA. According to Dr. Phil Davis, PhD., of Memorial University in St.
John's, NF, "There are suggestions that the Omega-3 fatty acids in seal oils
may be more readily absorbed than those of fish oils."
"Seal oil naturally has a high level of DPA - up to 10 times that of fish
oils - and evidence suggests that DPA may be the most important of the
essential fatty acids in keeping artery walls soft and plaque free. This is
one of the advantages of seal oil has over other oils," said Davis.
The Great North Star Group was a founding member of the International
Seal Oil Standards (ISOS) Program, established by Nutrasource Diagnostics
Inc., which certifies that each batch of seal oil is tested for nutritional
quality. Both OmegaGold and Omega Star brands have received a 5-star Rating
from ISOS for their purity and nutritional content grade quality.

A wholly owned Canadian company, The Great North Star Group brings
together Canadian expertise in the world of international trading with the
best trading partners from the People's Republic of China, South Korea, Japan,
and beyond. GNS products are available across Canada, Asia, and the Caribbean.
