OHA to Respond to Release of Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio Results



    TORONTO, Nov. 28 /CNW/ - On Thursday, November 29, the Canadian Institute
for Health Information (CIHI) will hold a news conference to release its first
report on HSMR trend results for Canadian acute care hospitals. The report is
entitled "HSMR: A New Approach for Measuring Hospital Mortality Trends in
Canada".
    Hilary Short, President and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA)
will attend the news conference, and will be available to speak with media
following the presentation to provide a provincial perspective.
    HSMR is an overall quality indicator and measurement tool that compares a
hospitals' mortality rate with the overall average rate. It has been used by
many hospitals worldwide to assess and analyze mortality rates, and to
identify areas for improvement.
