Ogilvy Renault pays tribute to its partner Brian Mulroney



    MONTREAL, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - 2007 is a year of great distinction for the
Right Honourable Brian Mulroney. In recent months Mr. Mulroney has received
several honours and awards for his significant contributions to international
relations and the legal profession. On the occasion of the launch of his new
book Memoirs: 1939-1993, Ogilvy Renault is proud to pay tribute to its senior
partner for his valuable contributions to the firm, its clients and Canada.

Mr. Mulroney for the many awards bestowed upon him this year. The benefits of
his vision and leadership of our country are still being felt today," said

    Mr. Mulroney's recent awards and recognitions include the following:

    -   April 19: The 'Order of Kniaz' (King) Yaroslav the Wise of the First
        Class(1). The President of Ukraine, Victor Yushchenko, awarded
        Mr. Mulroney this honour for his "defining personal role in Canada's
        recognition of the independence of Ukraine (December 2, 1991) and
        considerable contribution to the development of Ukrainian-Canadian
        relations."

    -   May 21: Honorary degree (Doctor of Laws) from Boston College to
        recognize his exceptional contribution to Canada-U.S. relations.

    -   June 2: The Médaille du Barreau du Québec--the highest honour
        bestowed by the Bar of the Province of Quebec. The Medal is awarded
        once a year in recognition of an individual who has made a
        significant contribution to Quebec society in the legal field(2).

    -   June 15: Honorary degree (Doctor of Laws) from the University of
        Western Ontario.

    -   June 16: Honorary degree (Doctor of Laws)(3) from Université Laval,
        Mr. Mulroney's alma mater.

    -   October 3: Next month Mr. Mulroney will receive the 2007 Founder's
        Award from the Fraser Institute for his role in the negotiation of
        the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the United States.
    

    About Brian Mulroney

    Mr. Mulroney joined Ogilvy Renault upon graduating from law school in
1964 and practised with Ogilvy Renault until 1976. He went on to serve as
President of the Iron Ore Company of Canada before entering politics. He
served as Prime Minister of Canada from 1984 until 1993. His government
introduced bold new initiatives such as the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement,
the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Canada-U.S. Acid Rain
Treaty. Prime Minister Mulroney's government also introduced a series of
privatizations, a low inflation policy, historic tax reform, extensive
deregulation and expenditure reduction policies that continue to be the basis
of Canada's impressive economic performance today.
    Mr. Mulroney sits on the Boards of Directors of numerous companies and
organizations, including Barrick Gold Corporation, Archer Daniels Midland
Company, Wyndham Worldwide Corporation, The Blackstone Group L.P., Independent
News and Media, PLC and Quebecor Inc.
    He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Quebecor World Inc., Chairman
of Forbes International and Chairman of the International Advisory Boards of
Barrick Gold Corporation and Independent News and Media, PLC.
    Mr. Mulroney also serves as Chairman and a director of Persona
Communications, Inc., and as a director of Quebecor Media and Said Holdings
Limited, all privately held companies.
    He is a member of the International Advisory Councils of the China
International Trust and Investment Corporation, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Lion
Capital LLP.
    Mr. Mulroney is also a director of the Montreal Heart Institute
Foundation, the International Advisory Council of HEC Montréal, the World
Trade Center Memorial Foundation and the Council on Foreign Relations.
    Mr. Mulroney is a Companion of the Order of Canada and a grand officer of
the Ordre national du Québec and has received honorary degrees and awards from
universities and governments in Canada and abroad.
