Official Opening at Résidences Tournesol - New assisted living units for semi-autonomous seniors

MONTREAL, Sept. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - In the presence of
Mrs. Marguerite Blais, minister responsible for Seniors, and
Mrs. Christine St- Pierre, minister of Culture, Communications and Women's
Condition and MNA for L'Acadie, Mrs. Geneviève Hotte, Chair of the Board,
Centre de Santé et de Services sociaux de Bordeaux-Cartierville-Saint-Laurent,
and Cogir Management Corporation Senior Vice President Operations Mathieu
Duguay announced today the official opening at Résidences Tournesol of a
40-unit assisted living facility for semi-autonomous seniors (intermediate
resources - IR) along with a 15-unit non-institutional (non-institutional
resources - NIR) convalescence facility.

    IR and NIR

The 40 assisted living units (IR) are intended for semi-autonomous senior
Montreal residents who require less than 3 hours/day care, thus freeing units
in public long-term care homes for handicapped seniors or seniors who require
full-time care. The 15 NIR units are intended for convalescing patients
discharged from the Montreal Sacré-Coeur Hospital. During their
out-of-hospital stay of up to 12 weeks, these patients can benefit from
customized care plans. This type of facility directly contributes to reduce
emergency jams by freeing beds faster. In all cases, the CSSS is responsible
for health care and services, whereas Cogir provides lodging and food services
as well as personal assistance and recreational services.

Meeting the needs of the ageing population

"We are now able to meet even more adequately people needs", stated
Mrs. Hotte. "The completion of this project entailed the close collaboration
of the CSSS and Cogir, and set the foundations for a new type of partnership
leading to the diversification of services we can offer to the population",
also said Mrs. Hotte. "Our ageing population, mostly constituted of women, has
increasingly demanding needs; this is why it is important for resources such
Résidences Tournesol to be present in our riding of L'Acadie", added
Mrs. St-Pierre.

Working to ensure the wellness of seniors

"Cogir Management Corporation is proud to pioneer this type of
partnership. The entire collaboration of all partners is a critical condition
of success towards the successful realization of such a project", declared
Mr. Duguay. "It clearly demonstrates the complementary role of private
retirement homes for seniors and the public healthcare and social services
system. We must continue to work together to ensure the wellness of our
seniors", concluded Mr. Duguay. "Today's announcement shows the importance of
getting various socioeconomic partners to work together towards improving the
living conditions of seniors. I sincerely hope the CSSS-Cogir partnership will
inspire others to put forth similar initiatives", acknowledged Mrs. Blais.
