TORONTO, May 26 /CNW/ - Today the Ontario Energy Board (the Board) issued
a Rate Order to reflect its Decision on 2009 electricity distribution rates
for Hydro One Remote Communities (Hydro One Remotes). The new rates are
effective May 1, 2009.
As a result of this Rate Order, Hydro One Remotes bill will increase by
approximately $4.12 or 4.4% for its year round residential customers using
1,000 kWh per month. In its application Hydro One Remotes had requested a
distribution rate increase of approximately 4.4%.
Hydro One Remotes requested a revenue requirement of $42.5 million for
the 2009 rate year. As a result of the Board Decision, Hydro One Remotes will
recover a revenue requirement of $42.2M.
In its Decision, the Board accepted Hydro One Remotes' proposals which
- $30.9M of the revenue requirement will be recovered through the Rural
or Remote Electricity Protection Benefit and Charge.
- Support for using renewable energy to supply remote communities
- Increased capital expenditures on diesel engines and the distribution
system to maintain the reliability and safety of the distribution
