TORONTO, May 1 /CNW/ - Today the Ontario Energy Board (the Board) issued
a Rate Order to reflect its Decision on 2009 electricity distribution rates
for COLLUS Power Corporation (COLLUS). The new rates are effective May 1,
As a result of this Decision and Rate Order, the delivery portion of the
bill associated with the cost to distribute electricity will increase by
approximately 5.1% or $1.85 for COLLUS' residential customers using 1,000 kWh
per month. In its application COLLUS had requested a distribution rate
increase of approximately 8.5%. The delivery portion represents about
one-third of the total bill.
COLLUS requested a revenue requirement of $6,134,984 for the 2009 rate
year. As a result of the Board Decision, COLLUS will recover a revenue
requirement of $6,131,881.
In its Decision, the Board accepted COLLUS' proposal which included for
- a $2.2 million investment for a new substation in Collingwood that is
essential to address system constraint issues.
- a $120,000 amount of investment in distribution transformers for both
renewal and replacement situations.
- a $150,000 amount of investment in vehicle replacement.
- increased operation, maintenance and administration costs mainly
attributed to inflation, participation in an extensive provincial
safety program, training and some labor changes to address issues
such as succession planning due to an aging workforce.
The Board directed COLLUS to refund $425,000 to customers for
over-collection of substation maintenance costs plus the carrying charges.
