NSSBA elects 2009-10 executive

DARTMOUTH, NS, May 19 /CNW/ - Members of the Nova Scotia School Boards
Association (NSSBA) elected their executive for 2009-10, at the association's
55th annual general meeting, May 15th at St. Francis Xavier University,
Antigonish, NS. Over 80 delegates attended the conference, hosted by the
Strait Regional School Board.
Ron Marks, a member of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, was
re-elected to the position of president of the provincial body. This will be
the fourth time Marks has been elected to the position. Marks, a retired

decades, previously serving as president from 2004-06 and 2008-09. A former
Mayor of Stellarton, his involvement with the NSSBA is extensive. As
president, he chairs the board of directors and is an ex- officio member of
all standing committees. Marks also chairs the Lead and Achieve committee,
which sets NSSBA's priorities for public education and lobbies for more
dollars to fund the system. "Ron is a passionate spokesperson on behalf of the
needs of students," said Elliott Payzant, past president. "He recently
provided leadership to a joint partner group that was instrumental in securing
more funding for public education."
Joining Marks on the executive are past president, Elliott Payzant, South
Shore Regional School Board; first vice president, Vic Fleury, Annapolis
Valley Regional School Board; second vice president, George Kehoe, Strait
Regional School Board and treasurer, Wanda Bezanson, South Shore Regional
School Board.

The NSSBA is the provincial voice for school boards.
