HALIFAX, Sept. 2, 2011 /CNW/ - Nova Scotia Power (TSX: NSI.PR.D)
announced today that Ray Ivany, President and Vice Chancellor of Acadia
University, will be joining its Board of Directors.
"Ray has a wealth of experience in leadership positions and understands
Nova Scotia and our customers," said Jim Eisenhauer, Chair of the NS
Power Board. "We will benefit greatly from his experience as an
educator and leader in our community."
Mr. Ivany became the 15th President and Vice Chancellor of Acadia University in April 2009.
Previous to this Mr. Ivany was the Chair of the Worker's Compensation
Board of Nova Scotia and a Principal of the consulting firm Ivany and
Associates. From 1998 to 2005, Mr. Ivany served as President and Chief
Executive Officer of the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) and prior
to that served as the Executive Vice-President at the University
College of Cape Breton.
Originally from Sydney, Nova Scotia, Mr. Ivany has a long history of
community involvement including a seat on the National Roundtable on
the Environment and the Economy, Ontario Investing in Students
Taskforce and the Nova Scotia Premier's Fiscal Management taskforce.
He has also served as a board member of the Greater Halifax
Partnership, Halifax Chamber of Commerce, Atlantic Provinces Community
College Consortium and the Maritime Provinces Higher Education
Commission. Mr. Ivany is currently a board member of the Nova Scotia
Business Inc., Canadian Council on Learning, the Association of
Universities and Colleges of Canada and the Leading Edge Endowment Fund
B.C. Regional Innovation Chair program.
