Nova Scotia MLAs to participate in Legislature skin cancer screening event, Tuesday December 4, 2007, to raise awareness about early warning signs of the disease.

HALIFAX, Nov. 28 /CNW/ - MLAs and staff at the Legislative Assembly will
have their skin checked for skin cancer by Halifax dermatologists at an event
at Province House, Halifax, on Tuesday December 4, 2007, from 9.30 am to
12 noon, to raise awareness about the need for early detection of skin cancer.
Organized by the Canadian Dermatology Association, the event aims to
highlight the need for early detection of skin cancer and make people aware of
early warning signs of this skin disease. Early treatment can lessen
disfigurement caused and even prevent death in the case of melanoma skin
cancer.
"Over half of all skin cancers are identified by people themselves, their
partners or close family members, so knowing what to look for is crucial,"
says Dr. Richard Langley, a Halifax dermatologist and regional director of the
Canadian Dermatology Association's Sun Awareness Program. He will head up the
event.

Media are invited to attend the event.

    - Dr. Langley will be available for interviews
    - Skin cancer statistics and fact sheets will be on hand
    - Digital Photos of skin cancers also available at
        www.dermatology.ca/media/skin_cancer_photos.html
