Notice to public: Settlement hearing in the matter of Robert John Travers



    MONTREAL, Sept. 11 /CNW/ - The Investment Dealers Association of Canada
(IDA) announced today that a hearing will be held before a Hearing Panel
appointed pursuant to IDA By-law 20 for the presentation, review and
consideration of a Settlement Agreement.
    The Settlement Agreement is between staff of the IDA and Robert John
Travers, at the material time, a registered representative at the Montreal
office of CIBC World Markets Inc., an IDA Member firm at the material time,
and relates to matters for which Mr. Travers may be disciplined. The conduct
which is the subject of the hearing occurred between March 2000 and October
2002. The allegations against Mr. Travers pertain to the fact that he engaged
in undisclosed personal activities, that he borrowed money from a client
without informing or obtaining the authorization of the Member firm, that he
defrauded a client, misappropriated funds belonging to a client, and failed to
abide by a commitment to the Member firm to cease soliciting loans from his
clients, the whole contrary to By-law 29.1 and By-law 18.14.
    Mr. Travers is not currently approved as a registered representative with
any IDA Member firm.
    The hearing is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
September 12, 2007, at 1 Place Ville-Marie, Suite 2802, Montréal, Québec. The
hearing is not open to the public unless and until the Settlement Agreement
has been accepted by the Hearing Panel. Copies of the decision of the Hearing
Panel and the Settlement Agreement will be made available if and when the
Settlement Agreement is accepted by the Hearing Panel.

    The Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA) is the national
