Entrust PKI to protect communication and infrastructure
DALLAS, March 26 /CNW/ -- The Norwegian Ministry of Defence's objective
was clear: enhance information technology and communication safeguards.
Roughly three years ago, the NDPD (Norwegian Defence Procurement Department)
began with a pool of six providers, but ultimately chose Entrust, Inc.
(Nasdaq: ENTU) to deploy the Entrust Authority(TM) PKI solution to assist in
the protection of classified and sensitive information.

The Norwegian Ministry of Defence selected the vendor based on five
decision criterion. This overall score helped the Norwegian Ministry of
Defence select Entrust as the preferred vendor to help secure their
communication infrastructure via strong authentication and smart cards, while
also providing application security, secure VPN and email capabilities. The
deal, which was facilitated by Entrust in conjunction with Hewlett Packard,
featured the purchase of Entrust Authority(TM) Security Manager and a host of
more than 10 additional security components. The Norwegian Ministry of Defence
has purchased enough licenses to cover all users in the Ministry.
"The Norwegian Ministry of Defence recognizes the importance of
information and communication security, and chose a set of solutions that will
help secure their sensitive channels of communication in a streamlined, non-
intrusive manner," said Entrust Chairman, President and Chief Executive
Officer Bill Conner.
Out of six competitors, Entrust was one of only two security solution
providers that could successfully deliver full Common Criteria evaluation
EAL4+ on the PKI components. Common Criteria evaluation is an international
computer security standard that dictates a thorough process for a reliable
implementation of an organization's security framework. EAL4+ represents a
numerical rating - EAL1 through EAL7, which is the highest and most expensive
- gained at the conclusion of the Common Criteria Evaluation process. It
reflects and identifies a confidence level of the implementation of a given

By managing the full lifecycles of certificate-based digital identities,
