TORONTO, March 1 /CNW/ - The 14th Annual Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of
The Year awards program is now accepting nominations, opening a national
search for the top business entrepreneurs across Canada.
"Canada's entrepreneurs are the foundation of our current and future
economic growth," said Dan Cornacchia, national director of the Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur Of The Year program. "Ernst & Young is excited about recognizing
these bright and successful individuals for their courage, innovation and
perseverance. We are proud to present them with the country's most prestigious
prize for business achievement."
The Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards honour Canadian entrepreneurs who
have not only founded innovative businesses, but have achieved financial
success and demonstrated a strong personal commitment to their businesses and
communities. A regional panel of independent judges, selected from past award
recipients, academics and business leaders, reviews all nominations.
Self-nominations are encouraged, and there is no application fee. Application
forms must be received by April 30, 2007.
The categories for judging include various industry and specialty
categories. Nominations are sought in five regions across the country:
Pacific, Prairies, Ontario, Québec and Atlantic. The final number and types of
categories for each region depend upon the nominations received and will be
decided by the judges.
Finalists for each of the categories will be announced in July and
regional gala banquets announcing the category and regional recipients will
take place in the fall in each of the regions. On November 1, 2007, one of the
five regional recipients will be chosen as Canada's 14th Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur Of The Year and will go on to compete at the Ernst & Young World
Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Monte Carlo.
The Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards have proudly honoured the innovation
and relentless entrepreneurial spirit of Canada's leading business people for
the past 14 years. Past national award recipients include Guy Laliberté of
Cirque du Soleil (2006), David P. Werklund of CCS Income Trust (2005) and
William (Bill) Comrie of The Brick Warehouse Corporation (2004).
The Entrepreneur Of The Year program was founded by Ernst & Young to
celebrate great entrepreneurs and heighten awareness of the economic impact of
entrepreneurial ventures. The program honors entrepreneurs through regional,
national and global awards presented in more than 125 cities in over 40
nations and on six continents.
