OTTAWA, April 20 /CNW/ - The Canadian Community Holocaust Remembrance Day
Ceremony honouring Holocaust victims has been moved to LeBreton Flats Park,
adjacent to the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at
3:00 pm EDT.
Invited guest speakers include:
- Right Hon. Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada
- Dr. Michael Ignatieff, Opposition Leader, Liberal Party of Canada
- Jack Layton, Leader, New Democratic Party
- Gilles Duceppe, Leader, Bloc Québécois
Attending dignitaries will include Members of the House of Commons,
Members of the Senate, Israel's Ambassador to Canada and Ambassadors from
approximately 50 countries, plus prominent community leaders. The public is
invited to attend.
Program participants will include clergy, Jewish War Veterans and the
Netivot Choir from Toronto.
Survivors living in Ottawa, Toronto, Montréal and Members of Parliament
and Senators will lay wreaths to remember this very dark period in the world's
Canadian Society for Yad Vashem Board Member and Event Chair Dr. Joel
Dimitry will be the Master of Ceremonies.
The event is sponsored by the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem and
supported by B'nai Brith Canada, Canadian Hadassah-WIZO, Canadian Jewish
Congress, Embassy of Israel, Jewish Federation of Ottawa and the Montréal
Holocaust Memorial Centre.
