OTTAWA, Oct. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - A new mother in Ottawa, ON used the World
Wide Web to develop an online child care database aimed at providing parents
with a free resource for finding child care.
"Child care is such an important decision in every parent's life - it can
be very overwhelming," says Vicki MacEwen, owner of Child Care Network.
"When my husband and I started to consider our daycare options for our
daughter, we realized we had no idea where to begin." That is when Child Care
Network was developed - an online database of Canadian child care services. It
is designed to aid parents in their search for child care and provide a form
of advertising for daycare providers. "These people offer such invaluable
services. We entrust the lives of our children to their care and they should
take pride and promote themselves." MacEwen says.
The site contains hundreds of daycare listings for parents to view and
compare. With a majority of Canadian children enrolled in some form of daycare
and more families than ever with two parents employed outside the home, child
care is a focal point in Canadian politics. In absence of a structured federal
program, the site aims to aid parents and reduce the stress when returning to
Parents can use the website to search for child care providers based on
their postal code. It contains home-based child care providers as well as
commercial daycare centres and detailed information for each listing.
"We have had a wonderful response from child care providers expressing
their excitement and appreciation." says MacEwen. "Our site does not negate
the need to carefully interview and research your child care options, but it
does give parents a step in the right direction."
