KINGSTON, ON, Oct. 20 /CNW Telbec/ - The opening of a GEM Health Care
Services Inc. office was announced today by company founder, president and CEO
Gaye E. Moffett, RN, B.Sc.N, M.Ed.
Founded in 1994, the Ottawa-based company is one of Canada's largest
independent and privately-owned health-care agencies. It specializes in
private, home and palliative care services. The agency also provides nurses
and other health care specialists for private duty, including supplemental
staffing for institutional and governmental clients.
"Kingston is a natural extension for GEM Health Care Services Inc.
because of the type of quality services we provide and the right mix of
demographics the city has to offer for expansion," says Ms. Moffett.
She notes that Kingston has a retirement populace that has become the
city's fastest growing age group representing about 15 per cent of the

Ms. Moffett also announced the appointment of Mary R. Myers, a Registered
Nurse and a University of Ottawa graduate with a Bachelor of Science in
Nursing degree, as Kingston Branch Director.
Ms. Myers has extensive experience in nursing that lends itself to the
management of a health care service. She is certified by the Canadian Nurses
Association specializing in gerontological nursing. As well, she has been a
community care coordinator with experience in case management, disease control
and public health nursing.
"This is the first phase of our corporate growth plan," says Ms. Moffett.
"I intend to hold up the Kingston office as our corporate model for the future
development of own branch offices and franchises."
Ms. Moffett and her business have been recognized by her peers for
outstanding business leadership and innovation. She has been commended,
nominated and received numerous local and national entrepreneurial awards.
In 2001, the company won the Small Business of the Year Award from the
Greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. She has been nominated twice in the past
four years for national awards for entrepreneurial women. In 2005, The Ottawa
Business Journal cited her company as the largest woman-owned business in the
national capital region from its annual book of lists. In 2006, she made
Profit 100 Magazine's list of Canada's top 100 women entrepreneurs.
Ms. Moffett was also honoured by the Ottawa United Way, the Ottawa Chamber of
Commerce and Le Regroupement des gens d'Affaires de la Capitale nationale in
2008 for her outstanding practices in the recruitment of skilled immigrants.
