New commander at 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group

VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, Sept. 2 /CNW Telbec/ - Colonel Daniel Ménard
succeeds today to Colonel Eric Tremblay as Commander 5 Canadian Mechanized
Brigade Group (5 CMBG). The change of command has been made official this
afternoon during a ceremonial parade that took place at the Valcartier
Garrison.
Colonel Tremblay officially handed over his powers in the presence of
Brigadier-General Guy Laroche, Commander Land Force Quebec Area/Joint Task
Force (East). Colonel Tremblay, which commanded 5 CMBG since March 30, 2007,
is transferred to Ottawa in expectation of a deployment overseas. As for
Colonel Ménard, he is arriving from National Defence Headquarters, where he
served as Army Operations Officer.
5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group is the largest operational formation
in Quebec and the only francophone brigade in Canada. 5 CMBG is made up of
10 units, of witch 3 offer operational support, with over 3,300 troops and
approximately 2,000 vehicles of all sorts.
Recent years have been very busy for the men and women of 5 CMBG,
especially on the international scene. Lets recall their participation in the
International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, more precisely in
Kandahar in 2007 and Kabul in 2004. This will also be the case in March 2009,
as troops of 5 CMBG will form the bulk of the Canadian contingent in Kandahar.

Note: The biography of the new Commander 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade
Group, Colonel Daniel Ménard, is available on the Web site of the 5 CMBG
at: www.5gbmc.ca. Photographs of the ceremony will be posted soon on the
    site.
