TORONTO, June 19 /CNW/ - Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) is pleased
to announce the appointment of Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka as Chair of its Board
"Rabbi Bulka is a terrific leader and has a tremendous presence in the
organ and tissue donation community," said Frank Markel, President and CEO of
TGLN. "Rabbi Bulka has been an active member of our board of directors since
2004 and we are honoured to be working with him in his new capacity as Chair."
Rabbi Bulka is the recipient of the Canada 125 Medal, the Mayor's Award
for Community Service, the Beryl Plumptre Award of Excellence from the Kidney
Foundation of Canada, the Gilbert Greenberg Award of the Jewish Community of
Ottawa for distinguished service and a special citation from Canadian Blood
Services for 200 blood donations. He has also received: Honourary Doctorate of
Laws, Carleton University; Bronfman Medal, Canadian Jewish Congress; as well
as the Canadian Blood Services "Honouring Our Life Blood" Award.
"I'm proud to accept this position," said Rabbi Bulka. "Organ and tissue
donation has come a long way, but there is more to do, and I'm looking forward
to saving more lives."
Rabbi Bulka succeeds former Chair Sue Wilson whose term ended June 4,
2007. His term will run until November 30, 2008.
Today in Ontario, 1743 patients are on the transplant waiting list. Of
those, 1085 are men, 629 are women and 29 of those patients are children.
Trillium Gift of Life Network is an agency of the government responsible
for the planning, promoting, coordinating and supporting organ and tissue
donation for transplantation.
