TORONTO, April 21 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of
the Near North Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation
of Ontario (ETFO), signed a tentative agreement yesterday evening with the
Near North District School Board.
"This tentative deal will give our members the working conditions they
deserve which in turn will lead to improved learning conditions for their
students. It proves that if teachers are offered a fair deal, they will accept
it," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"This a good deal. It will benefit my members and will create a less
stressful and more productive environment in elementary classrooms," said
Nancy Kilgour, President of the ETFO Near North Elementary Teacher Local.
Details of the agreement will be available following a ratification vote
by local members.
The Near North Local represents approximately 500 public elementary
school teachers. Their last contract expired August 31, 2008.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
