NAV CANADA employee receives international award for extraordinary service

OTTAWA, Nov. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - NAV CANADA is proud to announce that Claude
Vanasse, a Senior Technologist at the Montreal Area Control Centre is this
year's recipient of "Airway Transportation Systems Specialist of the Year
Award." Bestowed by the Washington-based Air Traffic Control Association
(ATCA), the award recognizes exemplary or extraordinary service performed in
support of air traffic control.
Mr. Vanasse was presented the medallion on October 30, 2007 at the ATCA
Annual Awards luncheon held in connection with the 52nd Annual ATCA Conference
and Exposition in Washington, D.C.
"We are all very proud of Claude and are pleased to see him receive this
well-deserved tribute," said John Crichton, NAV CANADA President and CEO. "His
dedication and persistent drive to improve procedures has led him to develop,
or substantially upgrade, innovative software applications that save time,
increase accuracy and enhance safety."
"A prestigious award such as this, from the premier international
association for air traffic control, brings honour to the entire company of
NAV CANADA. Claude's work has significantly contributed to NAV CANADA's
excellent record for safety and efficiency," noted Crichton.
"Claude is a tireless worker, a perfectionist and a model of
perseverance," said George Powell, Vice President, Technical Operations. "His
in-depth knowledge of Operational systems, how they interface with the users
and his abilities to find innovative solutions enables to positively affect
the work of Technologists, Engineers and Air Traffic Controllers. We have him
to thank for such web-based applications that record maintenance activities,
transpose all NOTAMs onto a map of Canada, improve air traffic simulations
used in our training and other systems to help interpret information from
radar data."
Vanasse's efforts earned him recognition from NAV CANADA last year. He
was the 2006 recipient of the Chairman's Award for Employee Excellence in
Technology.
