National Pictures of the Year winners announced



    VANCOUVER, BC, April 29 /CNW/ - The News Photographers Association of
Canada (NPAC) Pictures of the Year (POY) competition presented their first
annual awards to photographers Saturday night in Vancouver, British Columbia,
recognizing excellence in Canadian photojournalism. The judging body is proud
to announce that more than 1300 entries were received from across Canada,
giving the birth to a truly national photojourjoumalism awards program.
    The first annual NPAC awards recognized the best photos of 2006. Canadian
photojournalists competed in 12 categories, including the 2006 Canadian
Photojournailst of the Year and the Canadian Photograph of the Year. The NPAC
POY winners are as follows:
