The News Photographers Association of Canada's 2nd Annual Pictures of the
Year competition requests entries from photojournalists across Canada.
WINNIPEG, Dec. 17 /CNW/ - Canada's first and only national organization
for news photographers, the News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) is
now accepting entries for the 2nd annual NPAC Pictures of the Year
The 2nd annual NPAC awards will recognize the best news photography from
2007. It will feature 12 categories, including the "2007 Canadian
Photojournalist of the Year" sponsored by The Canadian Press, and the
"Canadian Photograph of the Year'" sponsored by Reuters.
A five-member panel will judge the entries and the top three
photographers in each category will be nominated for the awards.
The awards will be presented in Vancouver at the NPAC national convention
on April 19, 2008.
The Pictures of the Year awards are being sponsored by The Canadian
Press, Reuters, The Globe and Mail, CNW Group, Nikon, SAIT Polytechnic, the
Toronto Star and the Winnipeg Free Press.
The NPAC Pictures of the Year competition is open to all NPAC members as
well as 2007 members of the Eastern and Western Canadian News Photographers
Associations (ECNPA, WCNPA). Submissions will be accepted starting January 1,
2008 and will close January 31, 2008. A nominal $5.00 fee per submission will
be charged to assist in operating expenses. Students may enter at no charge
provided they are current NPAC members or 2007 members of WCNPA or ECNPA.
Last year, the first NPAC Pictures of the Year competition received over
1200 entries in 12 categories and became the largest professional photographic
competition in Canada.
This year, to keep pace with changing trends in photojournalism, NPAC has
added a new 'Multimedia' category to recognize excellence in multimedia
