BOWMANVILLE, ON, June 9 /CNW/ - The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Canada's
top stock car championship, rolls into Mosport for the Dickies 200, part of
the Mosport High Octane Weekend (June 12-14), the first of the Series only two
stops in the Greater Toronto Area this year.
Known as the CASCAR Super Series until 2006 when it was purchased by
NASCAR Inc. based in Daytona Beach, Florida, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series
is now in its third season of showcasing Canada's stock car racing talent.
With an exciting brand of racing that includes ovals, road courses and
temporary street circuits, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series provides a
first-class, professional national championship for drivers to compete in here
at home. Since its inception, every NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race has been
broadcast nationally on TSN which has also aided in providing exposure for the
Series and its drivers.
The Series also allows Canada's budding stock car talents with
aspirations to compete at NASCAR's top levels, the opportunity to gain
experience, refine their skills and showcase their abilities as part of the
Despite being a member of the NASCAR fraternity for only a short time,
the Canadian Tire Series has already begun to help move Canadian drivers up
the developmental ladder in the United States. D.J. Kennington of St. Thomas,
Ontario has competed regularly in the NASCAR Nationwide Series since 2007,
while J.R. Fitzpatrick of Cambridge, Ontario has competed in several
Nationwide events over the last two seasons and will race in select events in
the Camping World Truck Series for a team owned by Sprint Cup star Kevin
Harvick. The first two Canadian Tire Series champions, Andrew Ranger of Roxton
Pond, Quebec (2007) and Scott Steckly of Milverton, Ontario (2008), have also
competed in several Nationwide events.
Joining the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Mosport this weekend is the
U.S.-based Ford Racing Mustang Challenge, a series that features a grid of
identical, race-modified Mustang FR500S cars that will make its only Canadian
stop of the season. The U.S.-based F2000 Championship open-wheel series, the
Castrol Canadian Touring Championship presented by Toyo Tires and the
open-wheel racers of Ontario Formula Ford Championship round out the weekend
A three-day SuperTicket is $50 until June 10 ($60 at the Gate) and each
ticket includes parking, paddock admission, and entrance to the Saturday Night
Stock Car racing at Mosport Speedway. Children 12 and under are free when
accompanied by a paid adult admission. Single day tickets are also available.
General and family camping areas are available, with full-service
washrooms, showers and children's playgrounds. An advanced three-day weekend
general camping pass is just $30 for tents and pop-up trailers and RVs are $50
for the weekend.
