    TORONTO, Jan. 9 /CNW/ - Fans made mtv.ca and muchmusic.com their choice
spot for watching top-rated shows and hot music videos on the Web with a
combined total of 120 million video streams last year. Video streams on each
site increased by a combined total of 360 per cent over 2006. Other key
performance measures - unique visitors and average time spent - indicate that
Canada's premier music and youth destinations continue to deliver the kind of
content fans crave.
    "Millions of fans are streaming video content like never before and
they're making mtv.ca and muchmusic.com the top sources for their online
entertainment," said Brad Schwartz, Senior Vice President and General Manager,
Music & Youth Services, CTV Inc. "That's compelling news for advertisers
wanting to reach this highly sought-after audience across platforms."
    Last year video streaming on mtv.ca accounted for 80 per cent of site
activity. Of all the series available, fans consumed The Hills franchise most
often, followed by fan favourites Laguna Beach and A Shot at Love with Tila
Tequila. The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards was the most-watched special on
mtv.ca.
    Music videos represented 87 per cent of all streaming video content on
muchmusic.com. Canadian sensation Avril Lavigne scored two hits in the Top 10,
including Girlfriend at No.1, while Rihanna scored three Top 10 hits on
muchmusic.com. She was also the top artist on the site with more than 800,000
video streams as fans tuned in to watch the sexy singer's video chart-toppers.
    A combined annual total of nearly 19 million unique visitors drove the
record-breaking number of video streams on mtv.ca and MuchMusic's sites. The
sites kept each fan locked for an average of more than 50 minutes per month
with thousands of hours of show content and a library of more than 10,000
music videos.
