TORONTO, Nov. 28 /CNW/ - MTS Allstream Inc. ("MTS Allstream") announced
today that it will carefully review the rules for the forthcoming auction of
Advanced Wireless Services ("AWS") spectrum, announced earlier today by
Industry Canada.
"The rules presented today by Minister Prentice for the establishment of
an AWS auction have the potential to spur new competition in the Canadian
wireless industry to benefit all Canadians and Canada's international
competitiveness," said Pierre Blouin, Chief Executive Officer, MTS Allstream.
"With today's announcement, there is an opportunity to bring renewed
competition to a strategically vital industry. The result should be more
choice, better prices and innovative new services for Canadian consumers and
businesses."
"As to our own participation in the auction," said Blouin, "important
steps remain. We will not make any decisions about whether or how to proceed
until we have completed our analysis of the rules and discussed the range of
strategies available for entry with potential partners."
