MONTREAL, April 4 /CNW Telbec/ - From April 15 to 19, Montréal will
welcome the Annual Conference & Exhibition of the Society for Biomolecular
Sciences (SBS), which will be held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. More
than 2,200 professionals from the pharmaceutical, biotechnological and
agrochemical fields around the world will be taking part in numerous workshops
and conferences designed to allow participants to share the most recent
advances in new therapeutics.
"We are very proud to host this major event in our beautiful city," says
Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal. "Our pride is also
matched by keen interest, since Montréal ranks eighth in North America for
employment in the biopharmaceutical industry. In fact, our entire tourism
industry is thrilled at the prospect of welcoming the participants during the
five days of the convention, since the city stands to benefit from economic
spin-offs of upwards of $5.2 million," adds Mr. Lapointe.
Founded in 1995, the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) is an
international, not-for-profit scientific society which brings together some
2,000 members from around the globe. Part of the SBS's mission is to offer
scientists worldwide a variety of publications and programs-most notably the
Journal of Biomolecular Screening-which delivers information on the latest
developments in research and screening.
Tourisme Montréal is responsible for providing leadership in the
concerted efforts of hospitality and promotion in order to position the
destination on leisure and business travel markets. It is also responsible for
developing Montréal's tourism product in accordance with the ever-changing
conditions of the market.
